Union Minister

Naw Susanna Hla Hla Soe is a Cabinet Member of the National Unity Government, Myanmar and she became Minister of Women, Youths and Children Affairs in 2021. She was also elected as Karen Ethnic Affairs Minister for the Yangon Region in the national elections held in 2020 . She served as a Member of Parliament for the Myanmar Hluttaw from 2015-2020.

Naw Susanna was formerly an advocate, activist and practitioner for the holistic well-being of women and children in Myanmar.

Naw Susanna has organised many campaigns and events in support of peace building, ending violence against women and girls, protecting political prisoners and representing Myanmar in meetings with world leaders such as President Barak Obama, Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Dalai Lama, during her time as an activist for women’s rights.

Naw Susanna won the InterAction Humanitarian Award in 2012 in Washington D.C. She was the first woman in Myanmar to receive this prestigious international award. She was awarded Women of the Year in 2012 and 2013 by the media group of Myanmar and won the Women in Peace Building Award given by the Women’s Organisations Network of Myanmar (WON) in November 2013.

On March 19 2021, she’s honored a Gold Medal by Free Burma Rangers for her distinguished effort to help and support women and children in conflict.
